There isn't too much information about this particular Maus This Santa Barbara M43 Spanish Mauser is a bolt action rifle with a 24-inch barrel and 4 round capacity. Model: 43 SPANISH, 43 SPANISH AIRFORCE, SPANISH FR8. The 7mm chambered Mausers were replaced in Spanish service in 1943 by the Spanish M43, a derivative of the German Karabiner 98k which was chambered in the more powerful 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge, though the M1893 & M1916 versions of the rifles remained in service in various capacities into the 1950s.

Normally has a full top hand guard but this one has been shortened so a replacement may be sought. Basically same design as a K98K but straight bolt.

There were many gew98's and standard modell rifles in hand form german assistance to franco during the spanish civil war. Spain slowly backed away from 7mm caliber with the adoption of 8mm. Spain adopted the M43 mauser in 1943 of course, and from the beginning the M43's to include the M43 with the airforce 'crest' were all 7,92 caliber. I found a nice M41 matching to the sheath and bayonet and marked for the Fábrica. Interestingly the M43 has two bayonet lugs on it, one that will fit the standard M36 and M43 Spanish bayonet and the other to fit the M41 Bolo bayonet.
